Abstract
COMPARISON OF THE LEXICAL ITEMS IN THE SCANNING DICTIONARY OF TURKISH - TURKISH DICTIONARY: ADJECTIVES
The Dictionary of Texts (Tarama Sözlüğü) is a historical dictionary compiled from works written in Turkey Turkish between the 13th and 19th centuries, presenting words together with their attestations. Published in two series between 1935 and 1977, the work consists of a total of twelve volumes. In the first stage, under the leadership of Ömer Asım Aksoy and Dehri Dilçin, 160 works were examined between 1943 and 1957, resulting in the preparation of a four-volume Dictionary of Texts with Attestations (Tanıklarıyla Tarama Sözlüğü). In the following period, between 1963 and 1972, 67 additional works were scanned, and the dictionary was expanded into six more volumes. To these volumes, the Supplements and Index sections, prepared between 1974 and 1977, were added, giving the dictionary its final form. The primary principle taken into account in its compilation was to include Turkish words that are either no longer in use today or have undergone semantic or morphological changes. Over time, the expansion of the Turkish Dictionary's scope has necessitated the removal of many words from the Search Dictionary. Conversely, it should also be considered that certain words included in the Turkish Dictionary ought to be removed from Tarama Sözlüğü. The present study was prepared with the aim of contributing to this need. The study focused only on adjectives, and a total of 164 items that are used with the same meaning and structure in both dictionaries have been identified. These adjectives will be presented in tabular form together with their meanings as recorded in both Tarama Sözlüğü and the Turkish Dictionary.
